CASTELLO D'ALBOLA Chianti Classico le Ellere

Origin: D.O.C.G.

Vintage: 2005.

Vineyard: At Pian d’Albola at an altitude of about 500 meters (1,640 ft.). Following pedogenic alternations of the lithologic character of the zone due to marine deposits of the Pliocene, terrains consisting of limestone and marl formed. The soil features a good structure and a loose texture due to a mixture of clay and gravel. The structure of the soils and the excellent exposure to the south of the vine-covered slopes assure production of fully ripe grapes. Training system: spurred cordon. The average age of the vines is 20 years.

Vinification and maturation: The must, extracted from grapes harvested by hand in the first decade of October, is placed in horizontal fermenting devices. Alcoholic fermentation lasts about 12 days and is followed by malolactic fermentation. Afterward, in early December, the wine is transferred to barriques to mature.

Color: Brilliant and full ruby red tending to garnet. The color features superb intensity.

Bouquet: Intense, refined, elegant and velvety with delicate scents of violets, irises and red fruit.

Flavour: Balanced, dry and meaty due to its appealing fullness; it offers a firm backbone and an elegant structure.

Alcoholic content: 13%.

Serving temperature: 17°-18°C.
